Arrival at Fort Bowie

After our mile and a half hike we arrived at the historic Fort Bowie.
"Fort Bowie commemorates the bitter conflict between Chiricahua Apaches and the U.S. military - a lasting monument to the bravery and endurance of U.S. soldiers in paving the way for settlement and the taming of the western frontier. It provides insight into a "clash of cultures," a young nation in pursuit of "manifest destiny," and the hunter/gatherer society fighting to preserve its existence."
Here is a picture as is was just before it was decommissioned in 1894.

Here is a picture of the what it looks like today just low walled ruins.
Quinton C. is sitting at the picnic table by the stroller.

Quinton G. is pictured standing in the powder magazine.

After touring all the ruins, they stop for a picture in what were the barracks.

Nona admires past generals.

They had a small museum and in it they had a couple of trunks with clothes that would have been worn by soldiers so kids could try them out.

Declan wears soldiers attire.

Watch out McCoy is ready for action!

McCoy sites in the cannon.

Archy aimes.

They also had a real bugle that you could try to bugle. Archy was actually able to play it as was Eddy.

After the museum, we went to a park and had another Xploderz war this time Ashlee and I had guns and were able to join in the fun. We learned that Pa's gun really hurts more than the other guns.

Quinton since he was little has loved to chase off birds, he had a huge flock to send up at the park.

We all had a really fun day at Fort Bowie and enjoyed spending time together in the beautiful Arizona sun.
