We often go camping for Easter but this year we couldn't so we decided to go up the mountain for a picnic and enjoy the cool mountain air. We got the house all clean in the morning and packed up and left about 12:30 after we picked up some KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken Meal). It was a nice drive and fun to see the temperature drop the further we went up the mountain. We were nearly there when Zany started coughing I thought oh no I hope she isn't getting a cold. About a minute later she threw up all over herself and her carseat (add her to the list of kids that get carsick: Declan-always, Quinton-sometimes). Luckily we were almost to our destination and I had brought an extra outfit for her. We cleaned her up as best we could without running water and just used wipes, same for the car seat. We laid out our picnic lunch on nice picnic area when Eddy noticed a sign that said we had to pay if we ate at a area with a site number on it. We were at a numbered site and we had no money to pay with us; so we packed everything up and drove to a new area. We set up everything all over again and built a nice fire.
View of the pines
Rip roaring fire.
It began to lightly rain just a mist really so we kept on with our picnic thinking it would blow over there was only a thirty percent chance of rain and it had been months since it actually rained so what were the odds? Well they were against us, it began to pour.
All the kids run for the car through the rain.
All the chairs left empty
Just collecting rainwater
It could be worse really,
Archy could catch on fire. Don't worry he didnt.
But Zanyzley did step on the KFC coleslaw carton while in the car. Coleslaw got everywhere.
Everyone packed in the car waiting for the rain to stop.
We were all soaked with no change of clothes and our fire wouldn't go out. We poured water on it from the cooler and dug it trying to smother it. Every catchphrase from Smokey the Bear was running through my mind like, if its too hot to touch it's too hot to leave. I told Eddy since we were out of water we were going to have to rely on having so many boys help us. Eddy gave me a look of revulsion and understanding what I meant said, "Have you ever smelt pee on a fire it's smells terrible." I am a girl raised without any brothers so I had no idea what that smells like. I went to the car to tell the boys they had to help put the fire out. Quinton boy scouter that he is said,"Eeeewww gross have you ever smelt pee on a fire?" The exact same words that Eddy said. I was laughing at their reaction. Let it not be said that the Carltons boys don't step up when needed. We finally had the fire out after what seemed like forever. And no I still haven't smelt pee on a fire.
