We live at the base of a 10,000 foot mountain called Mt. Graham. Mt. Graham is a sky island and at the top has Alpine like climate while at the base is blazing hot desert. The runoff from the winter snow of Mt. Graham collects in a reservoir in the foothills which is Frye Mesa. Since Quinton needs to catch a fish to pass off his merit badge and Frye Mesa has several kind of trout we decided would go there to have him catch a fish. We set off on our journey and it was a really pretty drive to Frye Mesa (only twenty minutes from our house, high clearance vehicle is best but you don't need four wheel drive).

We got to see some cute cows right next to the car which always makes Zany's day

Let me say we are total amateurs in fishing. Eddy and I have no more idea about fishing than Zany does. We didn't let that deter us though. Quinton already had a fishing license and we got Declan one. Quinton used some of his hard earned money to purchase a new fishing pole. We weren't sure about bait so we bought some worms. Quinton was too squeamish to put the worm on the hook so luckily Eddy was there to do it. The first worm flew off with the first cast so the next time Eddy tried to wrap it so it would stay on better.

Since there was swimming going on Quinton and Declan took off on the tubes to the other side of the resevoir to get away from the noise. After about twenty minutes with no bites Declan gave up but Quinton kept at it. Quinton even hiked to the far side and continued fishing from the bank.

Sadly despite Quinton's valiant effort and even reading his book on fishing 1,001 fish tips, he didn't even get a bite. I wondered if he was supposed to be fly fishing for trout. I guess we'll just have to go again sometime.
