A Miserable Pleasure

We have a swimming pool co-op in our neighborhood so all the neighbors who want to pay a fee then have use of a swimming pool for the summer. We have been members for about five years. Today was the first day it opened for the season, so I told the boys we had to get some significant yard work done in order to go. They had to get through the misery before they could enjoy the pleasure of a refreshing swim. Most of them were, as Pa (my dad) would say, slow leakers. It took far longer than it should have to get the work done. We finally got to the pool only to find out we only had forty-five minutes to swim before it was reserved; we made the most of it.

Coy jumps in the deep end

Quinton on top of Declan playing the classic pool game of chicken

Whoa where did Quinton go?

Zany did pretty good for her first time, of course, she preferred Eddy to me.

Archy (in green floaty-Declan by side of pool) in the past has been a bit clingy, but not any more, he is headed to the deep end by himself. In fact, he didn't want me to hold him at all.

When we got home from swimming we had the serendipitous good fortune of having fresh, hot bread ready to eat.  I tweaked a bread recipe and made Oatmeal Bread. We often have oatmeal for breakfast and there always seems to be leftovers that no one ever wants. I finally have a way to use those up which makes me happy because I really hate to waste it.  The bread is really moist and chewy and surprisingly everyone really loves it. Although Declan is slightly disturbed by it; he ate it anyway.

Quinton and Declan enjoy fresh, hot oatmeal bread-Yum!

I guess it was worth misery in the end.
