During the winter, we turned our garage into our family room. Since it was originally just a garage there wasn't any insulation in the attic which wasn't so bad until it got really hot. Then we could really tell that there was no insulation in the attic despite the ducts Eddy put in tying into our existing central air. After the hundred and ten degree weather we just enjoyed insulating the attic became priority number one. Eddy and I took a trip to Home Depot (we should belong to their frequent flier club we are there so often) to price out options for attic insulation. We decided the ease of blow insulation trumped the slightly cheaper traditional roll insulation but in order to use the machine for free you have to buy ten bags=$350.00. Quinton and Declan were Eddy's helpers. Quinton cut and broke the bags of insulation and Declan feed them into the machine while poor Eddy was in the two hundred degree attic blowing in the insulation. Our attic doesn't have a floor just rafters and the drywall for the ceiling of the house so if you mis-step your foot comes crashing through the ceiling. It was a bit tricky to say the least and by the time Eddy had finished blowing our entire attic (since we had so much left over we figured we would just add to our existing insulation for the rest of the house) he was soaked with sweat and a bit light headed. It has already made a huge difference in the temperature in our family room it is much cooler.
Cost: $350.00 for whole attic
Time: Two Hours
Causality: Vintage Floor to Ceiling Lamp
Glass Globe broke
Quinton pulling in the hose
Quinton cutting the insulation
Quinton breaking the bags in two on his knee
Declan feeding the bags into the machine, Eddy on the ladder
Eddy in the really hot attic
Look at all that fluffy stuff
It looks like pretty snow, well that's about as close as we will come to summer snow in Arizona!
