Mining is the largest employer in this area. There are two major mines one in Safford, Az and the other is in Morenci, Az.
They both mainly mine for copper using the open pit method.

Archer's kindergarten class did a unit all about mining. At the end of the unit they had a special activity night for the parents and the kindergartener. Archer was really excited to get to wear his own hard hat and safety vest just like a real miner. They did some experiments and also had several hands on activities. Archer's favorite activity was putting the big rocks in the dump truck and then unloading them.

Before Archer can work at the mine though he had better focus on finishing kindergarten. Speaking of finishing school we only have two weeks left of school. EEK!
