I spent eighteen months in Michigan on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Michigan, they take their ice cream very seriously. They have lots of ice cream shacks that just open for the summer months. Quite of few of the ice cream shacks make their ice cream right on site. It is good!!! The first time I ever heard the term hand-dipped was in Michigan. The ice cream server dips into the ice cream with a the scoop building your desired cone. Of course, sugar cone is the only way to go!
While none of the local ice cream around here is made on site there are a couple of hand dipped ice cream places. A new one was just added to our grocery store. For a special treat we decided to take the kids for a hand dipped cone. They were pretty excited about this outing as you can imagine. They each got to pick whatever flavor they wanted: Declan-cinnamon, Archer-cookies n cream, Zany-amaretto cherry (it was pink), Quinton-mint chocolate chip, McCoy-happy trails, Eddy-rocky road, & Rhiannon-pecan praline.
The car ride home was blissfully quiet!
